nssm_logoNational Schools’ Soca Monarch 2016 Finalists Junior & Senior Category

The National Schools’ Soca Monarch (NSSM) has seen some new and exciting developments. We continue to develop the youth in a meaningful and positive manner. This year we have initiated the pilot of a mentorship program inviting top Soca artistes to work with the NSSM competitors to enhance their overall skills. There were also changes to the criteria for entry making it possible for non-school students from communities to enter the competition. The categories were readjusted moving away from school categories only to the following:

·         Junior Category ages 6-11

·         Senior Category ages 12-19

We have seen major cuts on funding from government and the private sector due to the recession and this has somewhat affected the competition as follows:

1.      There will be no semifinal competition so qualifying entrants will go straight to the finals of the competition which will be held on “Awesome Friday” held on Friday 29th January, 2016 at the Queens Park Savannah big stage from 10am.

2.       This will however give our competitors more time to practice and enhance their performances.

Despite the recession challenges that we all face as a country, The International Soca Monarch, Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts remain committed to youth development through the National Schools Soca Monarch Competition.
